The Rio Rug is defined by the flowing line that cuts down its middle: a single fluid boundary which crosses the surface of the woolen rug and divides it into two distinct fields. It is this boundary that gives Rio its name and its character. Like a meandering river seen from above, the line is at once a division and a natural connection, where on either side of it, two things change: the colour shifts, subtly, in a tonal modulation; and what is more immediately noticed is the surface itself.
